This Hohner Pianet T came in needing a bit of care. Like many of these old electric pianos, it had spent some time sitting around and the reeds had developed surface rust.

The Pianet T is a great little electro-mechanical piano from the late 1970s. Instead of strings, it uses steel reeds that are pulled and released by sticky pads under the keys. The reeds vibrate in front of pickups, giving the Piano its distinctive warm, percussive sound.wikipedia+1

The first job was to strip it down and clean the rust and grime from the reeds. I removed all of the reeds, cleaned them up and then tuned them individually before fitting them back into the piano.

Tuning a Pianet is a careful process. If a reed is flat, removing a tiny amount of material from the free end raises the note. If it is sharp, carefully removing material from the edge of the reed lowers it. It is slow work, but the small adjustments make a big difference once the piano is played as a whole.

With the reeds back in place, I adjusted the pickups for the best balance and output across the keyboard. I also replaced the output socket, reassembled the piano and gave it a full test.

It is now back together, working properly and sounding great.
